Do Something New

As the daylight hours grow shorter and the outside temperature drops, many of us have less ambition and less energy. We often feel like hibernating. It becomes easy to fall into a rut of doing the same old things day in and day out.

Here is a way to get back some of your energy and enthusiasm for life during the winter months or any time of the year.

Do something new each day.

Doing something new and different each day helps you feel alive. Looking forward to doing something new allows you to jump out of bed in the morning with excitement and gusto. Doing something new stimulates your brain and mental faculties making you feel youthful and alive. Doing new things on a regular basis makes life an adventure instead of a boring routine.

Here are some suggestions to keep your life fresh, new and interesting:



  • Try out a new food, new recipe or new restaurant.
  • Take a new route to work.
  • Shop at a new store.
  • Take up a new hobby.
  • Play a new game.
  • Read a new type of book.
  • Begin a new exercise program.
  • Take a trip to somewhere new.
  • Join a group and meet some new people.
Life is a series of choices. Choose to do something new today and brighten up your life.

  1. Commit to doing at least one new thing each day.
  2. Partner up with a friend and challenge each other to come up with new and interesting things to do each day.
  3. Keep a journal and document your new adventures, experiences, knowledge and friendships.
